Ghandi Award

The Ghandi Award was presented to Dr. Anteneh Roba on October 27, 2007 by the Society of Peace in recognition of his exemplary service in promoting Peace, Compassion, and Ahimsa for all living beings, particularly for his dedicated efforts rescuing four Ethiopian ''Cave Dogs'' and bringing worldwide attention to the plight of all animals. The award was presented at the Blue Nile Restaurant during a Foundation fundraiser for bringing those very four dogs to the United States.

Circle of Compassion Award

January 28, 2008: The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce that Dr. Anteneh Roba has been presented with a Circle of Compassion Award, which recognizes individuals who have performed an act of significant courage or compassion to assist an animal in need. In an effort to help animals in his native Ethiopia, Dr. Roba, a Houston emergency room physician, generously funded the rescue of the last four dogs trapped in Gido Washa Cave, a pit that for years was used by locals to dump unwanted animals. Though the Homeless Animal Protection Society (HAPS) in Addis Ababa tried to place the four animals in Ethiopia, no adopters came forward. So, Dr. Roba paid to transport the dogs to Houston where they could find new homes. The cave has since been sealed, and now Dr. Roba is trying to address the root cause of the tragedies at Gido Washa Cave by raising money to spay and neuter pets. Circle of Compassion . . .
