The Amsale Gessesse Memorial Foundation envisions further addressing the need for prenatal, neonatal, and pediatric care in Ethiopia and Africa through development of an eight-story, 205,000 square- foot, 300-bed, state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital in Addis Ababa. The Children’s Hospital will provide increased access to the highest quality health and social services to under-served populations. It will be a center of excellence for pediatric hospitals within Africa, drawing patients not only from Ethiopia but from across the continent, and would be staffed by professionals trained in treating children with diseases and morbidities prevalent in Africa. The Ethiopian Government has promised to provide the land once this vision becomes reality. If sufficient funding can be rapidly acquired, the Children’s Hospital could be operational around 2012.
The ultimate vision is for the Children’s Hospital to achieve better care with available resources and eventually do onsite research and provide pre- and post-graduate medical training in collaboration with national and international organizations and schools of medicine.
